Dedicated to the development of sportsmanship, horsemanship, and character.

The purpose of the Alaska High School Rodeo Association (AKHSRA) and AK Junior High School Rodeo Association (AKJHSRA )is to promote high school and junior high rodeo on a statewide scale and work towards bringing statewide recognition to the sport of Rodeo. The AKHSRA and AKJHSRA strive to promote professional conduct and good sportsmanship at various rodeos events.

Our mission is to offer kids in grades 6th-12th a chance to be competitive student athletes at the highest level of competition in their region, across Alaska and on a national level for championships and thousands of dollars in scholarships. We also encourage students to continue in school and to improve his or her's education.

This organization helps to prepare these young athletes for the next level of rodeo. We are a family oriented organization which encourages scholastic achievement through the high standards it holds for its members as students in the classroom and sportsmen in the arena.

Junior High School Members compete in goat tying, tie-down and breakaway calf roping, barrel racing, pole bending, chute doggin, team roping and ribbon roping. High School members compete in pole bending, barrel racing, breakaway, tie down roping, team roping, goat tying, bareback riding, saddle bronc, bull riding, steer wrestling, cutting and shooting events.

The cowboys, cowgirls and the animals used in the rodeo compete against themselves and the clock, as much as they compete against each other.
